Be an Advocate for Physical Therapy!
APTA of Maryland Practice Act
The act governing physical therapy practice in Maryland. Last updated – April, 2009.
Direct Acces
Direct Access: Patient access to physical therapists' services without referral means the removal of the physician referral mandated by state law to access physical therapists' services. Forty-four (44) states and the District of Columbia have granted consumers the freedom to seek physical therapy treatment without a referral.
NEW Marketing Materials: Physical Therapy - Your Choice Your Voice
The Chapter recently created a brochure and postcard template for the Chapter and private practices to explain direct access and how consumers have the right to chose their PT. The materials are customizable so that private practices can insert their own logo and contact information for general marketing.
In today’s healthcare system, patients have choices about their care. Did you know that you have the right to choose any physical therapy clinic or be seen by a licensed physical therapist (PT) of your preference? Exercise that right by voicing your preference:
• If your physician refers you to a specific physical therapy clinic, you can still choose another facility or therapist.
• Your referral for PT can be accepted at any PT facility that you choose, depending on your insurance coverage
These materials are now available free to members and available for a fee to non-members. Members can customize the brochures by inserting theirpractice/clinic information and logo.
To customize the materials, just send a request to the Chapter office at aptamd@aptamd.org.
