The Henry O and Florence P Kendall Award

The Kendall Award was established as a way for the APTA Maryland to honor its members for outstanding contributions to the field of physical therapy. This award is presented at the Fall Meeting. Nominees should be:

  • Physical therapists or physical therapist assistants who have demonstrated outstanding service to the profession of physical therapy in the area(s) of patient care, supervision, administration, education, and/or research.
  • Physical therapists or physical therapist assistants who have participated and been a dominant force in activities that have significantly affected chapter or professional growth and development.

The award celebrates the nationally recognized husband and wife clinician team who were prominent leaders and pioneers in research in the field of physical therapy.  Florence and Henry conducted groundbreaking research at the height of the polio epidemic to establish baselines for normal function in children and young adults. Through numerous publications, films, and workshops, they shared their expertise in muscle testing, posture, and physical fitness exercise regimes throughout their long careers, and provided an inspiring example of dedication to the profession.
